Tougher than paint, and it looks the part
If someone wants their alloys to look good and stay looking good, powder coating is usually where we point them. The colour goes on as a dry powder and then it's baked in an oven, so it bonds into a thick, even coat that handles brake dust and stone chips far better than ordinary paint ever will.
